Just 12 miles west of busy Manhattan, a quick 20 minutes commute by car, Montclair’s 3943 acres, approximately 6.16 square miles are nestled inside New Jersey’s most financial and industrial district, powerful Essex County. Montclair sprouted on land originally purchased from the Lenape Indians by migrating Dutch and nearby Connecticut settlers. Today, most of Montclair is still located on the eastward side of the First Mountain of the Watchung Mountains, providing many excellent views of the surrounding area as well as the awe inspiring New York City’s skyline.

Officially established in 1868, Montclair was immediately dubbed a country town with fast convenient access to the big city. Today in that same fashion, Montclair is speckled with seven convenient train stations and multiple accessible bus lines providing easy, fast, direct 24/7 service to and from the Big Apple.

A gracious, seasoned residential haven, known for its tree lined streets and 23 protected parks and natural reserves, as well as its magnet school system with an unusually broad curriculum. Montclair is Rich with Historical architecture that enhances its small town appeal. Montclair hosts all types of charming dwellings from Grand Victorian Mansions show boating detailed craftsmanship to modern condominiums to lovely modest colonial homes and great pet friendly, family starter townhouses. A seasoned community, characterized by a rich, diverse population of 39,000, Montclair has been attracting so many talented people (writers, artists, entrepreneurs and industrial moguls) since as far back as the 1870’s.

For recreation, Montclair has three public swimming pools, four skating rinks (two indoor), multiple public and school owned sports fields , and 18 tennis courts. For culture, there’s a public stage on Bloomfield Avenue used for concerts and special events. It’s home to the Wellmont theater, Montclair University has the Kasser theater, Studio Play House Theatre, Montclair Museum, and two local movie theaters. Montclair’s six commercial zones contain many enjoyable, walkable shopping streets filled with unique art galleries, small boutiques, large stores as well as many main stream and ethnical restaurants.
