Ceder Grove Homes for Sale - 07009


Ceder Grove is primarily a residential suburb located in the northeastern part of Essex County, New Jersey with a population of 12,300. Cedar Grove occupies 4.5 square miles situated between the First and Second Chains of the Watchung Mountains and is approximately 15 miles west of New York City and 10 miles northwest of Newark. Originally a small farming community, Cedar Grove was officially incorporated as a township in 1908. In the 1950s and 60s, Cedar Grove became one of the destination suburbs in Essex County for those looking to escape urban living of Newark and New York City. The Township is traversed by Route 23 and is in close proximity to Route 3 and Route 46 to the north and Route 280 to the south. Easy access to the Garden State Parkway assures a quick commute and fast travel.

Cedar Grove has been described by the Star Ledger newspaper as "Beautiful Suburbia" (January 18, 2002). Its beautiful parks, street trees, and Norman Rockwell like setting all lend support to this description of Cedar Grove.Cedar Grove's population density is less than the surrounding towns of Montclair, Verona and Little Falls. New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Cedar Grove as its 4th best place to live in Essex County and 17th best place overall to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey.

The North End of Cedar Grove starts after the corner of Fairview Avenue and Pompton Avenue. It consists of mostly homes, but there are some businesses located on Pompton Avenue, as well as a direct route to the famous Willowbrook Mall. A notable part of the north end of town is the Park Ridge Estates a community of million dollar homes built primarily in the 1980’s but recently expanded with large stately colonials. Park Ridge is a community where wild turkeys and deer roam free among the streets. An Animal lover’s paradise. Central Cedar Grove consists of the business district extending from the corner of Fairview Avenue and Pompton Avenue to the corner of Bradford Avenue and Pompton Avenue. On the west central side of town is the Essex County Hospital Center and on the east central side is the Cedar Grove Reservoir and Mills Reservation. Mills Reservation borders Montclair on the east side and Cedar Grove on the West side. The reservation ranges over 157 acres of protected wooded area. The reservation has sightseeing of different plants and animal species, four major trails and numerous smaller trails. One of the four main trails leads to a cliff that overlooks the New York City skyline. . During World War Two, an anti-aircraft gun emplacement was made in Mills Reservation at the lookout point on the cliffs overlooking New York City.The South End of Cedar Grove is the most urbanized part of the township containing homes that are closer together. The south end extends from the corner of Bradford Avenue and Pompton Avenue to the Verona Border. There are mostly homes but some businesses on Pompton Avenue: Burger King, The Pilgrim Diner, Staples, and King’s Supermarket. Like the north end of town, the south end also contains a section of million dollar homes.
